Cut and Run OnBY NICK KEPPLER
Leila Dallal plans nothing. Although the collage artist's work looks impeccably harmonious and meticulously diagrammed, Dallal says, "I just sit down with a bunch of magazines and see what catches my eye." She finds "a background or central character" and then continues rifling through magazines for images that correspond. She integrates seemingly disparate images, such as ones from nature and fashion magazines. "I use Vogue and National Geographic because they have the best paper quality," Dallal says. But traditional collage isn't Dallal's only medium. At the opening of "Wasteland," an exhibit of her work at Dean's Credit Clothing, she'll create dresses from egg cartons, shredded paper and cellophane in the downtown spot's front window. "It's something I wanted to do for a while," she says. "I don't remember where I got the idea."
